Andrea Jarrett, 16,
has been playing violin since the age of three and now studies with Roland and Almita Vamos at the
Music Institute of Chicago. Andrea is concertmaster of both her high school orchestra in Saline and the
Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra in Ann Arbor. She recently performed at the 2008 American
String Teachers Association Conference in Albuquerque as a member of the National
High School Honors Orchestra. She attended Interlochen Arts Camp for many summers
where she was concertmaster of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, a concerto
competition winner, and an Emerson scholar.
Andrea has been a soloist with both the Toledo and
Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestras as first-place winner of their concerto
competitions. She won first-prize in the Ann Arbor Society for Musical Arts Youth
Music Competition, and received honors in the Midwest Young Artist Walgreen Competition
and the Society of American Musicians’ competition.
Andrea is a member of the string quartet, Polaris,
which is presently in the quarter-final round of the Fischoff International
Chamber Music Competition in South Bend.
